Benefits of Chanting Ganesh Atharvashirsha?

The Phala Shruti of the Ganesha Atharvashirsham clearly elucidates the benefits associated with its chanting. Sometimes, the Phala Shruti is recited along with the main text of the mantra, while on certain occasions, it is omitted. Let us delve into the meaning of the Phala Shruti and understand its advantages.

The first verse states that one who studies the Atharvashirsham becomes immersed and united with Brahman, attaining a state of oneness. Furthermore, this person is not obstructed by any hurdles and experiences peace and comfort everywhere. Additionally, they are relieved from the burden of committing the five great sins. Studying the Atharvashirsham in the evening erases the sins committed in the morning, while studying it in the morning eradicates the sins committed at night. By performing this prayer in both the morning and evening, one can nullify their sins, transforming "Papa" (sins) into "Apapa" (sinlessness). Moreover, by studying and chanting the Atharvashirsham in all places, one becomes free from all obstacles. As a result, they obtain the four Purusharthas, namely Dharma (righteousness), Artha (material comfort), Kama (desires), and Moksha (liberation).

It is important to note that the Atharvashirsham mantra should not be given to someone who is unsuitable or lacks the necessary qualifications. If the teacher imparts it out of greed or delusion, they will incur sin. However, for the sincere and deserving student, the chanting of the Atharvashirsham can grant immense benefits.

The Phala Shruti further emphasizes that offering prayers to Ganesha with the Atharvashirsham makes one the possessor of the divine word. Chanting the Atharvashirsham on Chaturthi without eating bestows wisdom and knowledge. These verses are the words of Rishi Atharvan, affirming their authenticity.

Continuing, the Phala Shruti reveals that one who chants the Atharvashirsham and worships with blades of durva grass becomes equal to Kubera, the lord of wealth. Worship with puffed rice brings fame, while the worshipper becomes the possessor of intellect. Worship with a thousand modaks fulfills desired fruits, and worship with ghee and samith sticks grants everything.

During yagna and special offerings, chanting the Atharvashirsham has additional benefits. Gathering a group of eight learned Brahmins and chanting the mantra bestows the splendor of the sun. Chanting it during a solar eclipse in the presence of a Ganesha idol in a great river empowers the mantra. It frees one from great obstacles, faults, sins, and prevents falling from the attained position.

In conclusion, the chanting of the Ganesha Atharvashirsham provides numerous benefits, such as overcoming obstacles, obtaining peace of mind, comfort, and fulfillment of desires. It also relieves individuals from sins they may have unknowingly committed. Additionally, it grants the four Purusharthas and facilitates integration between the material and spiritual realms. The sanctity of the mantra should be upheld, and it should be imparted to sincere and deserving students. By chanting the Atharvasheersham in the prescribed manner, one can attain knowledge, relief from faults, sins, and obstacles.
