There are many other poojas in Vedic Jyotish other then the poojas for planets in Navgraha that are directed towards specific God and Godess. These poojas depend on the result desired by the native and on the base of his? Her isht devta, for example someone’s isht devta is Lord Shiva then he or she gets a pooja performed for Lord Shiva. It is a prevalent belief by many astrologers to go n worship at specific places that include Trayambakeshwar temple of Lord Shiva in Nasik, Ujjain, Haridwar, Gayaji or Badrinath dham, these poojas may prove to be irrelevant as they differ in vidhis and pecific poojas demand specific vidhi in performing. These vidhi or procedure may change for different pooja and the basic difference lie in use of mantras and other procedures and pooja samghri. In today’s article we shall discuss the vidi for shiv pooja I norder to get blessings from Lord Shiva.
Shri Shiv Pooja is an eminent pooja peformed for Lord Shiva and include a certain specific number of jaap of Shiv manas. Shri Shiv Puja is generally performed for good health, long life, spiritual gains and some other things. According to widespread belief, the pooja shall start on Monday and be finished on the same day next week but may vary according to the preference of Pandits. These pundits rigorously perform pooja and enchant Shiv Mantras in order to finish the pooja in desired time of one week. There are few steps specific in Shiv Pooja and should be performed accordingly.
First and the most elaborate step of Shri Shiv Pooja are to enchant a jaap of mantras. These may stretch up too minimum count of 125,000 mantras and require time and attention. Rest of the procedure is build around these specific Shiva Mantras. Firstly day is selected and then the assistant pundits are selected by Head pundit to perform the pooja. The group of assistant pundit may amount from 5 to 7 in number. Firstly head pundit takes the oath in front of Lord shiva, this process is widely known as “Sankalpam or resolution”. In the Sankalpam he mentions that he is going to perform Shri Shiva pooja along with assitent pandits and their name for the specific native, his name, his father’s name and the time decided to finish the mantras in desired manner. If the natives demand for specific wishes or desires, they are mentioned in the Sankalpam by the head pandit.
After this step, head pandit along with assistant pandit keep on enchanting mantras on daily basis on a stretch of 8 to 10 hours in order to successfully finish the pooja in time promised. They perform the pooja on behalf of native and mention in the Sankalpam that on successful completion the native should be blessed as a result of Shri Shiv Pooja. When all the count of 125,00 mantras are completed, a specific pooja devoted to the completion of pooja is organized, called completion ceremony. This ceremony varies in time and length for poojas for different God and Goddess. A variety of things that signify specific planets of Navgraha are also denoted with offerings in this step. These offerings may vary from, rice, wheat, sugar, salt, oil, milk, blanket, copper utensils, to black moles and certain and specific items related to one or the other planet among navagraha. Then starts the final and exclusive step of any pooja; Havana. This is not an easy step and require expert pundit to perform the pooja with utmost precision and care. A fire is lit upon In this step that is called as havan kund. After the fire has been lit by the pundits, Shiv mantras are recited again by the pundits and with the end of each mantra a sound of swaha is produced. With this sound a constituent from pooja samaghri which differs in different pooja are devoted to the havan- kund. This process goes on for repetition till the native is asked to encircle around the havan kund- which graduates the pooja onto next step. After that a coconut filled with specific items is devoted to holy fire thus making the pooja to come to an end. This marks the end of Havana and Shri Shiv pooja and all the process should be carried in specific manner as prescribed by Vedic Jyotish.
There are many precautions as well as prohibitions for the native while Shri Shiv Pooa is being conducted. Native is advised to stay away from egg and other non vegetarian food and eat only pure vegetarian food. Bad behavior and misconduct in any form is strictly prohibited. One is advised to refrain from smoking and consumption of alcohol. Native should not get involved in any act of physical violence during the pooja. He or she should not get involved with the partner sexually weather married or unmarried. He is advised to put efforts in getting connected with Lord Shiva and pray to him early morning after taking bath. The dedication and devotion during the pooja surely pays of well later.
It should be noted here that a Shri Shiv Puja can be done in the presence of the native as well as in the absence of the native. In case of absence due to specific reasons, a photo can be placed as symbol of the native and for representation. It is mentioned by the head pundit in the sankalpam that an assistant pundit shall recite the mantras on behalf of the native and the name of the assistant pundit is also mentioned. This can be done for the native at time of shifting priorities.
